When a customer called to order a cake for her son’s First Communion, I did not have a clue what the cake design will be, being a non-Christian. A fabulous opportunity to find out more! Here is what I found on Wikipedia about First Communion. I looked through numerous photos on the web for cakes made to commemorate First Communion, none of which was 3D. I also found out that grapes and wheat were important elements to signify wine and bread, which Christ ate at the Last Supper.
The customer requested for a chalice and communion wafer to be incorporated into the cake. Cake colour was to be minimal. So this is my take on a communion cake. Made the communion wafer with sugar paste to be placed by customer at home.

What I am most pleased about is that I was able to mix gold colour from scratch to make the gold cross!
