My first job was with a tax consulting firm, in the typing pool. When a client who is a tax consultant called to order a cake to celebrate her colleagues’ birthdays, memories of desks covered with paper and busy fingers keying in figures, calculating came back. Aroma of coffee wafting through the air when the tea lady comes around. Female tax consultants walking about with slippered feet, their high heels hidden under their desks. The radios are on, softly playing so as not to interfere when clients’ call.
